Dairysafe’s new processor training program, which covers the management of notifiable contaminants, has received a 4.8 out of 5 user rating following its launch in August.

The course contains three modules focused on E. coli, Listeria, and Staphylococcus aureus, and provides effective strategies for managing these contaminants, which pose significant risks to dairy processing businesses.

Processors who have completed the courses since August were asked to provide a rating and the results were extremely positive:

  • Course 1 (Managing Coliforms and E. Coli in your dairy plant). Rating: 4.9 out of 5
  • Course 2 (Managing Listeria monocytogenes in your dairy plant). Rating: 4.6 out of 5
  • Course 3 (Managing Staphylococcus aureus in your dairy plant). Rating: 4.9 out of 5

“I thought the content was very well thought out and has provided me with some specific direction towards the root cause analysis of our current situation. Thank you to all who contributed. This will be a great resource to share with colleagues,” said one processor.

“Great, informative course that I look forward to all our employees completing,” said another processor.

The modules are easy to follow, featuring short videos with clear narration and interesting, practical content to keep people engaged. Each module also includes a background document, with written notes.

Each module concludes with a set of five questions to assess understanding. Participants must successfully complete these questions before progressing to the next module. Upon completion, participants receive a certificate.

The training is delivered online, allowing participants to start, pause and resume as needed. The target audience for the training modules is dairy processing owners, supervisors, QA managers and staff.

“Notifiable contaminants often result from breakdowns in production due to inadequate skills and knowledge, poor process control, and non-compliance with good manufacturing and hygienic practices,” said Alistair McFarlane.

“Our learning modules are designed to address these gaps, offering a flexible and free solution to enhance the knowledge, awareness and expertise of staff.

“Importantly, they provide a solution to the legislative requirement for employees to maintain the necessary skills and knowledge for their food safety responsibilities.”

The program was developed with invaluable input from the dairy industry and a generous grant from the South Australian Government.
