A successful Dairysafe Forum #5 was held in late August with an audience of 26, including representatives from 14 dairy companies.

The theme for the Forum was ‘Allergens, notifiable contaminants, and recall’, and it was a face-to-face opportunity for participants to network and learn from Dairysafe’s SA Health colleagues about how allergens, contaminants and recalls are managed in the Health Government portfolio.

Allergen management is critical in preventing and mitigating the risk of allergen presence or cross-contamination, as well as the risk of the presence of undeclared allergens in a final product. Undeclared allergens are a risk to your consumers’ health, your company brand, and your bottom line.

Notifiable contaminants are another critical factor in dairy production. Product testing provides important information and comfort that your processes are successful in managing the risk of bacterial or pathogen contamination.

What do you do when testing finds a contaminant in your product? One of the potential outcomes of contaminated products is recall, and the Forum participants heard the SA Health experts outline the steps in navigating a recall.

The feedback from attendees was that the content was critically important, and invaluable in understanding how the issues are managed by government. It also provided those who attended with reassurance and contact points if they’re ever faced with a recall or notifiable contaminant.

Dairysafe continues to have a strong focus on a knowledgeable and interconnected dairy industry, which is the main driver for the Dairysafe Forums.

The feedback confirmed that the Forums are serving their purpose in forming industry connections.
