Support is available for dairy exporters needing to redirect or return consignments currently in transit due to the Middle East conflict.
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) is working with exporters to help manage shipments impacted by the current geopolitical situation, including dairy products that may no longer be able to reach their intended destination.
Exporters are encouraged to work closely with importers and review importing country requirements before redirecting product to alternative markets. DAFF may also be able to assist by engaging with overseas authorities to confirm market access requirements and acceptance of redirected product.
In addition, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has coordinated a national food regulation response to supply chain disruptions arising from the Middle East conflict. Australian food businesses experiencing supply chain issues can seek regulatory guidance and support regarding any associated Food Standards Code compliance matters, with arrangements modelled on those successfully used during the COVID-19 pandemic.
FSANZ has established a dedicated webpage for food businesses, providing access to food regulators and a reporting template that Australian businesses can use to notify their state or territory regulator of supply chain disruption issues.
For dairy products requiring a return to Australia, or where replacement export certification is needed for an alternative market, businesses can seek assistance from DAFF’s Dairy, Eggs and Fish Export Team. Replacement certificate requests can be submitted through the NEXDOC system.
Exporters with consignments in transit or otherwise affected are encouraged to contact DAFF as soon as possible and provide relevant shipment and certification details to facilitate assistance. Businesses with questions can contact DAFF via email at dairyeggsfish@aff.gov.au.
FSANZ and its food regulation partners have indicated they will continue working closely with industry to help businesses navigate the challenges posed by the ongoing Middle East conflict and resulting supply chain disruptions.
