Dairysafe food safety audit results are trending positively for 2025. Between January and August, 172 audits were performed across South Australian dairy farms, transporters and processors. This includes three premise assessments, three initial audits, 11 compliance audits and 155 routine surveillance audits.
Audit data confirms strong industry performance with a reduction in compliance audits from 23 in 2024 to 11 in 2025 (January to August). Dairysafe has also investigated seven events involving notifiable contaminants, including two recalls and three complaints during this period.
From the audits completed:
- 116 farm audits have been completed, resulting in no Corrective Action Requests being raised, illustrating the high overall standards maintained on SA dairy farms.
- 11 routine food safety audits for unconditionally registered export dairy processing establishments have been completed by Dairysafe as per the Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry.
- 33 processor audits have been completed year to date, resulting in nine major and one minor Corrective Action Requests being raised across seven businesses, for elements including HACCP, Good Hygienic Practices, Temperature monitoring and Storage, Maintenance, Ingredients Receival and Pest Control.
- 6 milk transport companies have been audited without any Corrective Action Requests being raised.
Overall, food safety standards in the SA dairy sector remain high, with no reported instances of pathogens in dairy products at retail level, no presence of antibiotic residue in finished dairy goods, and no critical non-conformances identified.
Year to date audit data validates industry awareness of the importance of constant surveillance and the need for continuous improvement.
