South Australia’s dairy sector has demonstrated continued commitment to food safety throughout 2025, with Dairysafe completing 234 audits across farms, processors and transporters to date.

The latest audit results show consistently high standards, strong regulatory compliance, and clear evidence of a robust food safety culture across the industry.

So far this year, Dairysafe has undertaken:

  • 163 farm audits
  • 65 processor audits
  • 6 transporter audits

These audits, conducted across all Dairysafe-accredited businesses, play a central role in ensuring every stage of South Australia’s dairy supply chain meets food safety requirements and produces safe, high-quality dairy products.

Surveillance audits in 2025 identified 14 non-conformances, of which 11 were classified as major. Key issues included:

  • HACCP plan implementation and maintenance
  • Pest control documentation and practices
  • Ingredient receival processes
  • Temperature monitoring procedures

Dairysafe continues to work closely with each business to ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly and effectively.

The number of complaints received and subsequently investigated by Dairysafe is consistent with 2024, with six received year to date.

Pleasingly, the number of formal incidents investigated by Dairysafe in 2025 has decreased by 48% from 2024 numbers, indicating a strong food safety culture across South Australian dairy businesses.

There have been two recalls attributed to microbial contamination across our industry during 2025, hence Dairysafe strongly recommends all dairy businesses review their recall plan at least annually to ensure all information is current and correct, should it be required in the event of a recall.

Overall, food safety standards in the SA dairy sector remain consistently high, thanks to a strong and positive working relationship between Dairysafe and the South Australian dairy community.
